If you’re like me, juggling a job, kids, laundry that somehow never ends, and maybe (just maybe) five minutes to breathe, the last thing you need is another “health hack” that takes an hour and a blender from 2007.
I get it. That’s why I want to talk about something small but mighty that’s doable: apple cider vinegar.
Yes, that thing in the bottle that sits in the back of the pantry, and it smells almost too strong ever to consider using again? Kinda a total game-changer.
I took some time to list 20 ways we can use this smelly pantry stuff to our greatest benefit yet!
1. Just a Splash of Apple Cider Vinegar in the Morning Makes a Difference
Having just a tablespoon of ACV with warm water and even some lemon before breakfast can make a difference. It only takes a second, doesn’t require brainpower (we haven’t had our coffee yet), and can gently wake up your post-hibernation body.
2. Supports Natural Detox
Studies show that apple cider vinegar aids the body’s natural detox pathways. No fancy juice cleanses required. ACV might work better than some expensive cleanses we often see on the shelves.
Another great perk is that buying ACV is very cost-efficient compared to many health products. You can purchase a whopping 240-ounce jug of ACV for about $30!
If you incorporate just two tablespoons of vinegar a day, you will have enough to last 240 days!! Find me another product with this kind of supply at such a cost!
3. Apple Cider Vinegar Tames Blood Sugar Spikes
Many studies show that ACV helps reduce blood sugar spikes after meals. That’s a big win for just about everyone. High blood sugar can lead to more problems than one, and nobody has time for that.
“I started using ACV because I have a strong family history of Type 2 Diabetes. All of the women on my mother’s side were diagnosed with type 2 by age 50. Now I do everything in my power to make sure I keep my weight and blood sugar under control. Apple Cider Vinegar is a MUST factor.”
4. Apple Cider Vinegar May Help Curb Craving
One of my personal favorites is taking apple cider vinegar in a capsule 30 to 45 minutes before big meals. This ultimately helps me feel more satisfied when eating. Doing this, in turn, keeps me from reaching for snacks when I’m stressed or bored.
5. Easy Add-In to Salad Dressings
Some good olive oil, ACV, a bit of mustard, and a dash of honey make an instant, light vinaigrette. Many salad dressings can’t compete.
6. Apple Cider Vinegar Boosts Gut Health
ACV is fermented, which means it supports a healthy gut microbiome. It is a strong aid for improving digestion, strong immunity, and mood stabilization.
Fun Fact: There is strong research about links between microbiome health and mental health. I wrote an article about it here.
7. Quick Skin Refresher
You can dilute ACV with water and dab it on your skin as a gentle toner. I use this when my face feels greasy. Not my favorite use of ACV, but it’s was worth mentioning.
8. Soothes a Sore Throat
Mixing ACV with warm water, lemon, and honey can create a natural, effective throat soother. The warmer drinking options are handy, especially during those colder seasons.
9. Post-Workout Refresher
A small splash of ACV in a tall glass of water and a bit of sea salt can create a nice natural electrolyte boost.
Real Life Tip: I keep a small bottle of diluted ACV in the fridge so I can splash it into some flavored water when I start feeling dehydrated.
10. Apple Cider Vinegar Supports Healthy Weight Management
Adding some ACV to meals may support accelerated fat metabolism and enhanced appetite control. These effects may be due to my lower blood sugar levels.
11. Clean Your Produce
Rinsing your produce with ACV can remove some nasty pesticides and gross bacteria from fruits and veggies.
12. Morning Routine Anchor
Having one steady habit, such as incorporating daily ACV, can create great morning momentum. It’s funny how that works—the domino effect. We start doing one good thing for ourselves on a daily basis, and then other good things start falling into place as well.
13. Natural Household Cleaner
A diluted ACV spray is an excellent option for cleaning kitchen counters and mirrors. There is no need to purchase harsh cleaners. The only thing you might be dealing with at this point is the vinegar smell, which some people prefer over bleach.
14. Hair Rinse for Shine
A weekly ACV hair rinse can clarify buildup and add shine, ideal for low-maintenance hair care. However, if your hair is already dry like mine, I would heed caution. Do your research on this one, for sure!
15. Flavor Enhancer in Cooking
Add an ACV splash to soup, sauce, or veggies to brighten flavor naturally. I like to add a small amount to ground meat; the kids receive the ACV benefits and don’t even know it’s there!
16. Travel-Ready Health Boost
Pack a small travel bottle and mix it with water on the go. It helps when your diet’s off or your immune system needs backup. I typically get ALL the gas station food cravings when I am on the road for long periods, and this little hack helps me fight them off.
17. Quick Afternoon Reset
Mix a small tablespoon of ACV in cold sparkling water with lemon. It gives you fancy vibes, a refreshing taste, and a gentle energy boost.
18. Budget-Friendly
One bottle does seem to last forever (recall the 240 days) and can replace so many other products—from facial toners to kitchen cleaners to supplements. While some people claim that ACV never expires, I always recommend going by the expiration date set by the manufacturer.
19. Supports Immune Function
ACV is rich in acetic acid and has antimicrobial properties that can help your body fight off bugs. No bugs are needed here, there, or anywhere!
20. It’s a Tiny Win
When life feels overwhelming, and the work never seems to end, even something small like a tablespoon of ACV daily can build self-confidence and lean into a domino effect of better health choices and habits. And that matters.
How to Get Started (Without Overthinking It)
Start with 1 diluted teaspoon or 1 capsule once a day. Gradually work up to 1–2 tablespoons or 1-2 capsules if it agrees with your body. Organic, unfiltered versions with the “mother” offer the most benefits.
“But Wait… Isn’t ACV Bad for Your Teeth?”
Yes and no. It can wear enamel down if you drink it straight. That’s why I prefer the capsules over liquid form.
Gentle Reminder:
Apple cider vinegar isn’t a fix-all, but it is a powerful tool in your health. It’s especially useful if you just need something easy that still makes a difference.
A small dose of ACV might be your no-brainer, kick-behind sidekick.
A Trust-Worthy Source
